CREATING
IMAN COSMETICS
When
Iman introduced IMAN Cosmetics and Skincare as an exclusive
line for women of color in 1994, she was already considered
an authority for this growing market. “I have a real
sense of who the true woman of color is,” Iman explains.
“She is not merely one ethnic group…she’s African-American,
Hispanic, Asian, Middle Eastern, and Native American.”
Says Iman, “Through my years of personal and professional
cosmetic experience, I realized, though there were products
for African-American and Caucasian women, there were
no lines that encompassed all women of color. Throughout
my career, I had to create makeup that looked good on
me by being a good chemist. I decided to introduce my
own line because I realized that there weren’t makeup
or skincare products on the market that met my needs
or the needs of all women of color.”
Iman goes on to say, “I’ve redefined cosmetic marketing
terminology. Until now, terms such as ‘women of color’
and ‘ethnic’ have been associated with products developed
for African-American women. I believe women of color
are the women of the world. These women live right here
in this country. It’s time to address the concerns of
these women because today’s minorities are tomorrow’s
majority.”
“Simply creating a color makeup line is not enough,”
says Iman. She believes skincare is equally important.
“Many women have become too dependent on color systems,”
she says. “If you can’t walk out of the house without
makeup and feel really good about your skin, you have
problems. We have to start by dispelling the myths –
we’re not made of steel. Sunlight, pollution and stress
affect our skin too.”
Iman is involved in every aspect of the brand including
product development, package design, and marketing.
By assembling a team of experts, Iman has ensured that
IMAN Cosmetics and Skincare utilizes breakthrough ingredients
and advanced technology to develop superior products
for women of color.
Iman
is striving to create an environment where education
and communication become the focus for makeup and skincare
products. “I want the consumer to tell us what her needs
are rather than us telling her what they ought to be,”
she points out. “My main goal is to eliminate the constraints
associated with beauty. I’m not telling anyone that
I can make them look like a model, but I can make them
look their best.”
Iman is now providing the opportunity for you to own
your own cosmetic business. You can sell well-known
and highly sought after cosmetic brands such as IMAN,
Flori Roberts, Patti LaBelle and Interface through a
home-based business or a kiosk in a mall. Successful
Consultants and Kiosk Owners say the products sell themselves.
You can make $2,500 or more a month.
